Basic Equipment Troubleshooting Part 1

When an issue arises with a piece of Equipment, there are some simple steps that you can perform that may solve the issue.

  1. Trace the connection cables from the Device to the Workstation and make sure they are plugged in tightly and correctly.
  2. If the Device has its own Power Source, you want to trace that and make sure it’s plugged in and that the Outlet is providing Power. Maybe Plug a Lamp into it and see if it works.
  3. If all else fails Power Cycle the Device. Turn it off or unplug it for at least 30 seconds and then turn it back on. You may even want to Reboot the Workstation as well.
  4. Does the Device require an Internet Connection, like the Credit Card Reader or a Network Printer? If so, and it is not communicating, then your Internet may be down. In this case you would want to reach out to your IT Department or Internet Provider.
Completing these 4 easy steps prior to calling or emailing i3 support will save you time! If you want help preforming them or any extra training on how to complete them yourself reach out to the Support Team!

Security codes are the basis for what a user can or cannot do within Counterpoint. They define which menu code is assigned to users and whether they can perform point of sale functions like processing returns. By default, we program three security code levels for you: Administrator, Manager, and Point of Sale. The administrator level allows the most access to the application, and the point of sale level allows a user the least access to the application.
Menu codes define the functions available in the Counterpoint menu. For example, if a user does not have the Items function on their menu, they cannot add an item to the database.
Each Counterpoint user has associated User Preferences to determine how Counterpoint functions for that user.
